About this tour
Step into the spiritual heart of Japan with a tour through Nara’s UNESCO World Heritage Sites, where ancient temples, sacred shrines, and playful deer await.
Begin at Kōfuku-ji, once the powerful family temple of the Fujiwara clan. Explore its centuries-old pagodas and the National Treasure Museum, home to Japan’s most famous Buddhist sculpture—the captivating Ashura statue from the 8th century.
Next, walk through Nara Park, where friendly deer freely roam among visitors. These gentle creatures are considered messengers of the gods and are an iconic symbol of the city.
Arrive at Tōdai-ji, home to the world’s largest bronze Buddha and Japan’s most impressive wooden structure, the Daibutsuden. Step inside to witness the spiritual scale of this 8th-century masterpiece.
Then, follow the lantern-lit path through the forest to Kasuga Taisha, a sacred Shinto shrine known for its vermilion halls and thousands of bronze and stone lanterns.
Finally, visit Gango-ji, one of the oldest temples in Japan and a designated World Heritage Site, where the tiled rooftops and stone Buddha relics speak to Japan’s earliest Buddhist traditions.
This full-day journey through Nara offers an unforgettable blend of sacred architecture, national treasures, and natural beauty—all in one historic city.
