Dating from the Taisho period, Naramachi Nigiwai no Ie is a well-preserved machiya townhouse that offers visitors a glimpse into the architecture, lifestyle, and atmosphere of early 20th-century Nara. Open to the public, the house provides an opportunity to experience the refined character of a traditional urban residence.

Inside, visitors can explore spacious tatami rooms, a tea room, traditional reception spaces, and a beautifully maintained garden. Wooden interiors and carefully preserved architectural details reflect the craftsmanship and elegance of the period while offering insight into everyday life in historic Nara.

Today, the house also serves as a community cultural space, hosting exhibitions and seasonal events throughout the year.

For visitors, Naramachi Nigiwai no Ie offers a welcoming introduction to the architectural heritage and living culture of Naramachi.
