Yugayama Enchi Garden
Where Sacred History Meets
Scenic Beauty in Nara
Yugayama Enchi is a 1.3-hectare garden area on the south side of Ukimido and Sagi Pond at the southern edge of Nara Park.
Official sources explain that it was formerly the Nanto villa garden of the Yamaguchi family, who were active in the Osaka business world from the Meiji to Taisho periods. In 1927, the area was added to the nationally designated Place of Scenic Beauty “Nara Park” because of the way Yugayama, Sagi Pond, and the surrounding scenery form an integrated landscape.
The garden is also associated with cultural exchange, as painters, tea practitioners, and other cultural figures are recorded as having gathered here. A reconstructed tea house on the western side helps convey this aspect of the site.
For visitors, Yugayama Enchi offers a quiet introduction to the garden culture and scenic design that developed within the wider landscape of Nara Park.
